Hello everyone, I will be attending college next fall and decided I should look into getting a computer. I'm basically a complete newbie when it comes to computers and don't know which laptop to buy. I should preface this by saying that I will probably be doing the premed route with an economics major and future plans to attend a medical school. I don't expect the laptop to last me the whole way through, but if it can cover at least undergrad then I would be elated.

My priorities are portability, long battery life, and reliability. I like to be mobile a lot and don't want to be troubled with the hassle of constantly looking for an outlet or by the burden of carrying around a huge and heavy laptop. Reliability is key for me, possibly even my most pressing concern, because I'm not keen on troubleshooting issues frequently if things break or go awry in some other way. As far as the capabilities of the laptop itself, it doesn't need to have insane specs, but it should be able to handle daily tasks with ease. I won't be running video/photo/music editing software, probably just typing assignments and maybe browsing youtube. The screen doesn't need to blow me away as long as I can comfortably watch HD video. Memory should be at least 128gb, I will be streaming most of my media or keeping it on the cloud/external hard drives. I'm most familiar with windows, but wouldn't mind trying out an apple device. Also, the faster the better even if I have to shell out some more money for it. My budget is around $1000 but I might be able to squeeze a few hundred more if I see something I really like.

Thanks everybody!
