A prep book I'm using that was recently published says that all scores will be visible, which is strange because I read elsewhere that Score Choice was established a little while ago so students could pick the scores they want colleges to see. Can you explain the pros/cons of score choice?

There is a score choice option now where you can choose which scores you send to colleges.

Many colleges require all scores anyways, but it seems that they aren’t informed if you use score choice, therefore you can use score choice to schools that want all scores.

It’s up to you on how honest you want to be.

If that’s the case, and it’s based on honesty, how are schools going to verify that you sent in all scores? I was reading another thread about this, and I’m still murky on what’s “right” and “wrong.”

Also, does Score Choice apply to both the SAT and SAT Subject Tests? What about the ACT?

It applies to the SAT and Subject Tests but not the ACT.

Yes, some schools request that Score Choice not be used at all, but this cannot be enforced.

So schools can not find out if one actually used score choice?

That is correct.

However, they could find out if they call your GC’s office and ask them how many SAT scores they have…though I’ve never heard of that happening to anyone. I think someone mentioned in another thread like this.

Well, that would be a violation of privacy. Plus, my school doesn’t even know my scores.

Didn’t think about that.

How do they not have them? I thought they automatically get sent to your school? Or is it optional?

My school was never sent the scores, nor do I remember being given the option.

Confused… If you take advantage of the option to send your scores to colleges during the SAT registration have you lost the “Score Choice” option?? You sent your scores to four colleges from the fall test and then retest in spring, get a lower score, but had already authorized four schools to get your scores…Are you screwed??

Pretty much.

You enter the name of your high school when you make an account on CB. Your guidance counselor gets your scores.

I don’t think you have to enter the name of your high school.

Hmm. How many times is it “acceptable” to take the SAT?

As many times as you want.

I took it four times. Mistake. Fortunately, I think I’m only going to apply to 2-3 schools that don’t honor score choice.

My suggestion would be to plan on taking it twice. Three times if you have too, but try to avoid 4+, it looks bad. You have all summer to study for the first fall test, and if you are dedicated, you could easily raise your score 200+ (well I guess depending on where your starting at). Just by Direct Hits, Grubers if you need Math, and most importantly the Blue Book.

Are you a sophomore/rising junior now?

I’ll be a junior in a few months and I’m planning on taking the SAT in the fall.
