Can someone help me out; how does FA actually work

nevermind…I thought Capt referred to Plattsburgh. Sorry

Did you know that only 20% of UNC-chapel Hill’s students are from out of state, and that is by legal mandate? So admission is extremely competitive for out of state applicants.

They require that you file the FAFSA and Profile. They were the least generous of any school on my D’s list with the financial aid award.

If you think you are competitive enough to get in, then you better check their website now and check out their scholarships - the Robertson is one. It requires a separate application, but would be worth a shot. Most UNC aid is reserved for in-state students from what we’ve seen. We learned about the external scholarships too late to apply, but do try if you think you have a good story to tell!

And you should look at Pittsburgh, apply early, and write incredible essays for scholarship consideration!

You can do some leg work yourself. Google the Common Data Set for each school and look at section H which has the info on FA, merit aid and average $ amounts of each.
