Can someone tell me about economics at W&L?

How strong is the program?

Is it heavily geared to the pre-law crowd, or does it do a good job preparing for grad school in economics?

Do the profs have connnections to arrange for interesting research opportunities?

Not at all geared to the pre-law crowd, I'd be more worried about a leaning toward the i-banking crowd

History and English are more common pre-law majors.

Why be worried about "leaning toward the i-banking crowd?"

If research is your thing, plenty of opportunities are available. I've known guys who have done research with professors in the department.

My point is that the university as a whole has a tendency to turn out i-bankers over grad school candidates - thus the advising for that is better and that's the kind of students you will be surrounded by.
