Can the alumni help me pick?

With all these colleges advertising how great they are, i am really looking for some helpful alumni that could help me out. I am looking to get into a pre-med program and have looked at these schools
- Lawrence University
- University of Wisconsin-Madison
- University of Illinois at Chicago
- Rush University
- University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Loyola University Chicago

Could you point out which school you would most recommend and your personal experience/opinion on their pre-med program. I'm also open to other college reviews and their pre-med programs. Thanks!

Please realize that most posters are a) high schools students looking for advice, b) parents looking for advice c) parents of enrolled/graduated students continuing to post. Sometimes there are current students posting in the individual school forums. But realize that everyone has only gone to one school (excepting transfers) and can’t personally compare.

You need to consider relative costs for you because med school takes a lot of loans. Browse the premed forums for advice on picking an undergrad college.

@BrownParent. Thank you for taking the time to reply. However, I think you misunderstood my question. I’m not looking to compare two schools, but just looking for some insight regarding the premed programs from students going there or having graduated from the program. I just wanted to know their experience with the premed programs in their respective colleges (since they also had to pick through colleges) and let me know if I should target one of the specific schools because of a helpful teacher, for example. Thank you for the suggestions though!

There is no such thing as a “pre-med program” at most good colleges… You can major in a wide variety of things and still qualify for med school. Most good schools do have pre-med advising which helps plan meeting some of those requirements and the unwritten ones like volunteer work etc.

"As you are reading over this material, there are a few things to keep in mind:
“Pre-med” is not a major. Pre-medicine is a set of course requirements that prepares you for success on the MCAT and as a medical student.
You do not have to major in the sciences in order to gain admission to medical school. In fact, statistics show that humanities/social science majors are admitted at a slightly higher rate.
As you select your major, you should consider an alternative career that you would find interesting and rewarding and major in a field that will prepare you to enter that career.

Thanks you for your help @barrons! Sorry for the “pre-med program” mixup, still trying to wrap my head around college.
