Title says it all. I want to upload a pic at the end.

Do you mean as your entire essay or a picture IN your essay? I don’t know if it’s wise to do a picture instead of an essay, but it’s certainly possible - you just put it in the doc you’re uploading. It would be memorable!

Do not substitute a picture for the essay. If you want to include a picture with your essay, that would be fine. But you definitely need an essay. Caltech used to have “the box” in addition to the Feynman essay, which was for something like submitting pictures, writing, etc, but its no longer on the application and fulfilled a different purpose than the Feynman essay.

As long as the picture does not make any file you are uploading huge, it should be fine. I think one of the reasons they got rid of the box essay was that it was hard to download so many files of various formats and large sizes.

Man, I remember doing that stupid box thing and having to mail it in before online applications became popular.

Not sure if you can upload a pdf file, but you can always write up an essay and throw in a picture, then print it as a pdf with a program such as PrimoPDF. That way you know they’ll be able to open it, and it’ll look the same on their computer as it does on yours.

i had a few pics in my essay, actually. I made it look like a faux research paper, and I had faux figures in it.

Also, be sure to look at the picture in black and white also before you include it. Parts of the application might be printed when reviewed, and I doubt they print them in color.

I think most printers nowadays do gray scale instead of black and white. ;)

Still a good idea, though.
