I know at my sister's university they don't allow students to have them because it interferes with the internet or something, so they have to plug in their printers. Has anyone had any problems with using wireless printers in the dorms?

Im bringing one. Ive never heard that they cause any problems at UT dorms. I think you’ll be fine with it.^_^

Well, they’re allowed, but I don’t know if they would actually work. The thing is that with Resnet, you get prompted for a password and username and all this other stuff at first (which I think even involves downloading something). I’m not an expert on the subject by any means so don’t quote me, but that’s just my impression. Example: I brought a wireless internet radio last year but I could never get it to work except with an ethernet cable. Some people in my dorm were even having trouble with Xboxes, iPod Touches and iPhones, and I never got it to work on my Droid.

@buriedalie For your droid, you have to download an app called XpressConnect.

I had many friends with wireless printers but for some reason no one managed to get theirs working… no idea if we’re all dumb or if it’s actually being blocked

I’m not entirely sure how wireless printers work… but they won’t be able to connect to the UT wireless network because of additional security protocols. It’s not like connecting to your wi-fi at home.

You also aren’t allowed to have your own wi-fi network on campus.
