Forgive me if this has already been discussed. My kid has an athletic offer on the table from a college and she is interested. My question is - is it ok for her to still apply to other schools (w/o intention to play sports) as a plan b? I assume its not set in stone until she signs with the school. I would like to see her cover all of the bases before she makes up her mind. Money is not that much of an issue that she'll need a full ride.

Absolutely generate options. It is not heard of to have an offer pulled if the coach lands a better recruit. Look out for thine self.

lilmom, congrats to your athlete!

did she make a “verbal” commitment to the coach? Or is it just the coach committing that he wants her?

if your daughter has committed than I wouldn’t apply elsewhere unless admissions rejects her. and unfortunately I have heard a bad story recently about some girls being rejected after their was mutual commitment, and they had passed on HY so it was too late to go back…a real shocker…so it does happen.

btw: where do you apply to in february, which schools allow that? just curious.

good luck to her!!!

Congratulations to your daughter, how exciting! As far as a plan b, unless your daughter has committed to this school AND has been accepted by admissions, I would absolutely apply to other schools. Admissions is too much of a crap shoot these days to not have a back-up plan in place.

pacheight, D is a jr. so she will be applying next year.

The coach verbally offered her a spot w/scholarship and told my H that she has never retracted a verbal offer. She gave D until July to verbal, which I think is early, but this is a small school. Timing is everything here. I hope she can verbal and still put out apps in Oct/Nov. The only question mark is signing. I know there’s an early one and a late one.

So, Thanks! Looks like she can still throw out some apps and see what comes back!

Too early. If coach wants her now he’ll want her in September. What sport?
