I live in Texas and am considering in state since its cheaper, it just can't be in my town (it actually literally can't cause there's no college because a community college, my town is tiny). Are there any big cities in Texas with transit good enough to not need to drive to get around town? List me colleges in those (I know at least one town), I have not yet taken my SAT but am going to try to take the next one. My family's income is between $49,000-$50,000. One good thing is that I'll get more financial assistance than out of state because states take care of their own residents first. I've been focusing more on out of state up until now, I'll still try for out of state but it might be too expensive.

University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas at El Paso, University of Texas San Antonio, have large campuses with most things within walking distance or within bikable distance.
Another university for you to investigate:
[The University of Texas at Tyler | Degree Programs, Financial Aid, Total Enrollment](http://www.uttyler.edu/about/facts.php)

Nice campuses in Texas where students don’t need cars:
[Trinity University - San Antonio, Texas](http://new.trinity.edu/)
[Southwestern University | Experience Paideia](http://www.southwestern.edu/)
[Austin College: Sherman, Texas](http://www.austincollege.edu/)

You need to focus on the campus itself and what’s around it; many are pedestrian friendly, no need to drive. And everything is around the campus so you don’t need a car at all.

Texas A&M has a bus system that goes all over college station including store routes like HEB and Target. UT has a bus system too. UT San Antonio is a good choice too.

Stats? So we can suggest some safeties and reaches :)

There is also St. Edward’s University, which is a private university located in Austin (about 20 minutes away from UTAustin). However, I recommend looking into this university if you think your grades are very good. Many students I know actually received scholarships that ended up making their tuition lower than that of universities in the UT system. I would say to look into it.

UNT, Texas State and U of Houston all offer scholarships based on SAT and ACT results. If you are a junior you should take your tests in the spring, and then again in the fall - the schools will consider your best results. Some people even take them twice in the fall, trying to improve. If you are a senior, you better take them as soon as you can.
