Can you suggest a couple of matches for me?

Can you please glance through my numbers and stuff and give me a couple of match-reaches, solid matches, and maybe a few safety-matches? I have my reaches and I always have state schools as safeties, but I'm having a hard time gaging what a match is.

I'm looking for schools in the north (not south) and preferably on the east coast (west and mid-west isn't bad either). It has to be good with giving money. And I also want it to be strong in LINGUISTICS, FOREIGN LANGUAGES, and SOCIAL STUDIES.

I know I should really be able to do this on my own, but I'd appreciate just a few schools that pop into your head. Thank you so very much.

Do you want big or small classes? Conservative or liberal? What type of social scene?

It also helps if you give us your reach schools, and then ask for schools that are similar in terms of student body and academics.

My reaches are Georgetown UChicago, and JHU. Do you think they're too high or too low for reaches?

Class size doesn't matter, but small is always better I guess, but I think lecture classes would be fun too. I prefer a more liberal school. Social scene.. hmm.. no crazy drinking/partying, but not so that I won't have a party to go to or somewhere to go on weekends.

Please? D:

-low family income (<$40,000); 1.5 people already in college

i stopped there, EXPLAIN YOURSELF!

My brother goes to JHU, and my mom is continuing her studies part time to become a nurse at the local cc. The reason? My dad is running a dry cleaners that isn't doing so well... My mom also works there part time, and still has time to care for her family. :D

i dont think gtown or jhu are reaches for u...i would also suggest middlebury if you're into linguistics

oh, that counts as 2 :P. unless your mom is half a person or something.

I should've written 1.5 college students. :O

I heard Middlebury was good for languages overall, but they don't seem to have a linguistics major. For that matter, they don't have Korean classes either... Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I think Chicago and Georgetown are solid choices for reach schools.

At Chicago, thanks to our new financial aid endowment, you'll be debt-free.

Actually, very few schools have a Korean department.

I know UT Austin does, which could work as a low match. It's in Texas, but Austin is a really liberal, eclectic city with a northern vibe. And the standard rate, I believe, is only $14k a year OOS.

U Chicago sounds like a perfect choice, and they can offer full rides to low income students. Look at U Rochester for another match that gives money. Two other schools that may work for you are George Washington U and Boston U- as safeties that give money. Look at Boston College, too. Many of the liberal arts colleges are giving good aid these days. How about Amherst?
