<p>S is wondering if he can take classes in his first 2 quarters for credit and not p/f. Some of his major requirements require prereqs taken for credit.</p>

<p>Even if the option requires a certain class to be taken on grades (eg ACM95 for engineering majors), if it is taken in either the first two terms of freshman year on mandatory pass/fail then it will count for the option. </p>
<p>Some students take advantage/exploit this fact to take known difficult classes for their intended option (eg CS21 for computer science majors) freshman year to avoid having a potentially low grade on their transcripts.</p>
