Can you take the USABO at another high school?

Hey, my high school doesn't offer USABO. I want to take the open exam for the 2011 competition. I know I could try to persuade my hs to offer it, but the truth is I would be the only one taking it. Is it possible to take it at a local hs other than your own? Thanks.

I would suspect so; they usually try to make accommodations for people for tests like this. I am not confident, however.

Thanks for your reply silverturtle. I will probably contact other high schools if I do get the chance to study over the summer. Did you do USABO?

No, the only olympiad that any school in my area participates in is USNCO, so I unaware of the others until somewhat recently.

Oooh interesting. Yeah I would have been unaware of the Olympiads altogether if it wasn’t for CC.

Mistake. :)

Talk to Kathy, the USABO Director. kframe@cee.org

Thank you for the link. I have decided to focus my time and efforts elsewhere, but I appreciate the comments.

My kid decided to take USABO this year, and got her hs Bio teacher to sign her up. We had to pay the $75 fee, though, the school didn’t pick it up. She was the only one at her school.

I think it’s a good idea to convince your school to sign you up. The maximum cost is just $75.00. You can convince your friend to join in to share the cost.
If you take the test in your school, you are only absent from your class excusedly 1 or two periods, while taking the test in other school, you have to take the whole day off. You may not get an excused absent either. And the transportation expense to other school is a factor to be considered.

My friend took the USABO open round in Ann Arbor since my school didn’t run it. So I suppose it is possible…
