Is it possible to practice/teach outside the U.S. with an M.D. from a U.S. med school and a subsequent residency? Are there any implications associated?

Thanks in advance :)

bump…

I don’t have know the implications but you should be able to. Depending on the country you might have to retest and redo residency. If you come to the US with an MD from elsewhere you have to retest and redo residency.

Like Chemfreak said, it depends on the country. Some are very willing to take US-trained MD’s and the process is very easy - others not so much. I know some physicians that work part of the year in the US and part of the year abroad (IIRC, in Australia).

I think this might be a more popular option now that the Health care bill has passed.

I believe, and i might be wrong, that Australia pays its doctors 2nd highest in the world (after U.S.). I think more people will consider this option now.

^i agree with that statement. Doc’s in India get paid a lot too, whether you believe it or not. A huge portion of the hospitals expenses go to doctors…like a stupidly high amount.

Thank you everyone :)

What about the Middle east?

bump…

Yeah, there are some countries in the middle east that will take your US MD. In general, most countries should, when you go over there you have to get re-certified and everything but nothing too different.
