I'm a junior (American citizen), and I recently visited U of T (St. George) and Ryerson (didn't get the chance to see Carleton.) I fell in love with Ryerson, but my parents are already reluctant to let me major in journalism AND study in Canada. I'd really love to do both, but is that feasible?

I want to be as employable as possible, and I've had trouble telling which school has the better reputation--Carleton or Ryerson. This is assuming that I can get into both schools, of course.

I spoke with a Carleton admissions rep at a college fair recently. He said that Carleton has a better reputation than Ryerson, particularly at the international level. I understand the schools teach journalism differently, but I'd be willing to overlook less favorable aspects of a program if doing so means I'll attend a higher-quality school.

Also, if anyone has info on U of T's journo program, that would be great! I got the impression it was second-tier, despite having the U of T name. The admissions rep I spoke to said that U of T's program offered a more hands-on approach since it's taught in conjunction with a college, but that was a bit off-putting (so was the fact that it's not on the St. George campus.)
