Canceling Math 2 Subject Test Scores?

I have been preparing for the SAT Math 2 Subject test for months, constantly solving Barrons and Dr. John Chungs. When I would solve materials from the official Collegeboard for practice, I would also do very well.

I thought I was prepared for the test but when I took it this morning I was so disappointed. I saw around 8 questions that I have never encountered anything similar to before and since I was trying to solve those, I ended up with no time to check over my answers. I’m aiming for an 800 and I thought I could achieve but the test was nothing like what I expected. There was barely any trig that I had tirelessly practiced and a bunch of questions that I had never even encountered anything similar to before. I had heard from so many people who took it that the actual test is much, much easier then Barron’s but in my opinion it was just as hard as Barron’s.

I know that if the test actually was hard for many people, that the curve will be much more generous but should I take the risk or should I cancel my scores and just take it in November? I’ve been studying for this test for so wrong and I ended up crying after taking it due to how angry I was. I worked my ass off just to get it handed to me. If I’m not going to get an 800, everything seems meaningless. I’ve already been so stressed with my schoolwork that everyday feels like a chore for me to get through.

No don’t worry about it too much! I wouldn’t cancel your scores! You can always just opt out of not sending your scores and don’t worry if you did bad (you probably did fine), you can always take it again! I highly recommend you to not cancel them because as you said, you did study a lot and thats ok! Everyone has off test days! And I do agree wit you, there were definitely some questions on there I had no idea!

If you guessed on those 8, you’ve still got a great shot at an 800. Don’t cancel unless you expect to miss more than 12.

@hermit9 I left 6 spots blank and had no time to check the earlier questions…

You’ll probably score high 700s, so I wouldn’t cancel.

@junebuggie: “If I’m not going to get an 800, everything seems meaningless.”

I kinda just wanted to say hang in there. Listen to Hermit9, and just breathe.

If you miss 8 or leave 8 blank, you’re not going to get 800. Generally the curve is -6 raw and occasionally -7 raw for 800.

However, getting a high 700 is just as good so I don’t see why you would want to cancel. If you get a 700 something and are not satisfied, just retake it. It’s better to have a good score in your back pocket in case the next test doesn’t go as planned either.

“I know that if the test actually was hard for many people, that the curve will be much more generous.”

Curve for SAT 2’s are predetermined, doesn’t matter if everyone did horrible, the curve will be the same. I think only AP curves are determined by the performance of the test-takers.

Don’t cancel! So what if you don’t get an 800? a 750+ is still an incredible score and you won’t be rejected for not doing perfect. Lol I took a subject test last year and thought I failed since I guessed 1/3 of the test and ended up getting an 800… Don’t cancel
