AFPJ- If I'm reading these posts correctly, you are a Junior and will be attending Summer Seminar. There you hope to pass the CFA. If this is correct then it is not imperative that you pass the CFA so early in the summer. Get your elbow looked at and healed. If you want to make sure this doesn't turn into a DODMERB issue, then find experts that can give you advice. You can heal your elbow and still try to find ways to increase your strength for pull ups. You don't want to be in that amount of pain so early on. This might sound silly, but do you know any big guys that can help support your weight while you are doing pullups? Then you can train at a slower pace while you tend to your elbow.

Go to all the gyms in your neighborhood and talk to the manager/owner. Tell them what your goal is and maybe they will get you in for free or at a really reduced rate. When my teenage son needed money to attend a Junior War College he sold lemonade on the corner! You'd be surprised at the money these adults contributed towards his cause. He also went to the Republican Womens Club and the Lions Club and received donations. Ask around, you'll be amazed at the generaosity your community will show when they see a kid trying so hard to reach his goals. That combined with some add neighborhood jobs and you might be able to join a gym with the equipment you need.

I'm on my own, in terms of help. Beleive me, if I had the resources, I would surely not take them for granted. In the type of neighboorhood I live in people often have there own problems to deal with that they don't like to be bothered to help someone else out. One way I can money to use a gym would be selling candy at school and on the subway. I don't have a problem doing that. I will definately look into it. It's just right now I'm concetrating on passing all my classes because I screwd up lat semeester and failed two! I'm also working to get my SATs so I can get that first hurdle in the admissions process.

Good Luck AFPJ! Please keep us posted on your progress. If your neighborhood has a YMCA, go talk to them. They might be able to help. Speak to as many adults at school as you can and find someone for fitness advice and encouragement. Someone can be your mentor. Private message me if you'd like.

The nearest YMCA is all the way acroos the Bronx. The other YMCA is in Harlem, which is like a 15-20 minute subway ride. Theres a Bally Total Fitness thats one subway stop away. Would their facilities do me any good? I'm not that familar. I want a place where I can lift wieghts, run, and swim.

If you feel comfortable, go talk to them, but do not sign a contract for anything. You are trying to accomplish a goal and need some help getting there. They might have jobs available in exchange for some workout time. If you get nowhere with the sales staff ask to talk to the manager. Dress appropriately and be extremely polite. (which I'm sure you would) It goes a long way.
Usually these clubs have short term memberships, but you'd need to sell quite a bit of candy for that! But also, as you said, don't lose focus on your other priorities like SAT and the courses you are retaking.

Do not be discouraged if it does not work out. Another option is to talk to your counselor or principal. Does your school have any workout facilities?
