Candidate Visit Weekend?

Does anyone know what time the mids get bused to Baltimore on the 15th?

I had requested info on the admissions counselor duties. I should have been referring to the Regional Director. Is the Regional Director on the Admission Board? Do they make recommendations to the Board? What is the make-up of the Board?

we're being bussed at 0800 from what I've heard.

-current mid

any chance we could just drag with the mids to the game? just kidding!

the regional director is not a voting member of the USNA admissions board.

The composition of the acutal admission board changes from year to year. Basically it is composed of the following: 4 department chairs from specific departments, 3 professors, batallion officer, company officer, and the dean of admissions, who casts the deciding vote should there be a tie in the vote. I believe the Supe has the final word from there should one be needed.

It is a 3-year rotation to sit on the board, with about a 50% turnover of members each admission year.

Important considerations:
BGO interview and "student notes" carry a considerable weight in the process- it is the candidates chance to meet "face to face" with the admissions board, as the board itself does not interview candidates. Thus, that interview needs to be taken seriously and the candidate needs to demonstrate what will make them successful at USNA. Your BGO is instrumental in alerting the admissions board if you will be "a good fit."

Lastly, there are 2 other components where you can help-or hurt- your chances at the table (aside from poor CFA scores or DoDMERB DQ) -
the first is the personal statement- if you do not answer the 2 questions posed to you points will be deducted, so make sure you address what is being asked, and within the word count being asked. Make it organized and show that you put some effort into it.

Second- character issues. Things that can sink the ship: cheating, stealing, DUI/DWI, underage drinking, drugs, suspension from school-
while it is not an "absolute" deal breaker you will need to address any such issues head-on and what you have done to change the course of your ship.

hope that provides some clarification of your question.

Teacher recommendations: also matter - they need to be "personal," meaning that the teachers need to speak from personal knowledge of your capabilities and performance- a "canned" letter can take off points from your whole person score, while one that demonstrates personal knowledge of the candidate AND SUPPORTS THE SCORES AND GRADES YOU HAVE SUBMITTED will gain you points. Again- the information given in that recommendation needs to align with your achievements....thus, "johnny is an outstanding student in math" with a grade of "c" and a math SAT of 500 just isn't going to cut it.

no way no how.
no tickets to the game either.
and the Brigade will be forming up early to leave early for Baltimore- it is my understanding the busses are departing the yard at 0800-

I have seen candidates at CVW dragged to some games (thinking basketball, baseball, soccer, etc)- but always those on the yard and open to any other visitor. ND is just not one of those games!

HOWEVER-
this little birdie will "clue you in" on a hot tip for all of you that are bleeding blue and gold....
a certain accomodation at BWI if offering a great deal for the ND game, that includes room, 2 tickets to the game (which has been sold out for months!) and 2 RT tickets on the light rail to the stadium- at a very fair price- so if that strikes a cord of interest, PM me for the details!

There is nothing better than watching the Mids cheering from the stands at a football game, and this one promises to rock Baltimore!

Love the Irish for sure-
but GO NAVY!!!!!!!!!!
