Candidate Weekend Invitation

There is no shuttle service from Washington DC airports to Annapolis. They only go to Baltimore Airport and then to Annapolis. At least 100+ each way just for the shuttle. I am thankful for Bill0510's comments because it sounds like a huge hassle for 26 hrs. Now I just have to tell me son and feel guilty.

For us the CVW was important since our mid didn't visit before his appointment. After he went in Feb., we went back a week later, in conjunction with a trip to DC for business, as a family and met the mids he had been with the weekend prior. It was really great to see the other mids off the yard when we went to dinner and it gave our son a chance to talk more with them. So for us, CVW was very important and well worth the investment.

There is no shuttle service from DCA to the yard, but it is really easy to take the New Carrollton train from the terminal and then get a cab to the yard for about $40.00. (didn't I post this before? must not have pushed the right button.)

Anyway, whether your applicant goes or not does not matter a whit in their appointment. Ours already had the appointment but wanted to actually visit the yard before committing, so we asked the BGO to arrange for the CVW.

Oh, and there is a non-stop Seattle to DCA flight that leaves every 12 hours or so on Alaska Airlines. The nice thing about being in Alaska is every ticket you buy gets you half-way to a free ticket with mileage. Hey, you have look at the bright side!

when you all recieved your CVW invites, did you get 3 copies. In the envelope, they sent me three copies of the same letter.

Nope- we got just one

Although I must say in several contacts with USNA since our 1st application into NASS earlier this year - they seem to screw up pretty regularly in some way on mailings. We got our notice of NASS in an open email sent to every early selectee across the country. We could find out about all my daughter's friends by this method before they did.

And then, they sent out a NASS letter with the wrong information and in the corrected information, THAT too was wrong.

You gotta love the fact that someone more detail-oriented is driving our subs, ships and planes for dear old Navy!

While we are on the subject... please, please, please make sure that you make a copy of every piece of paperwork you send to the Academy and you request receipt confirmation from the post office. I know its a hassle but worth every minute of time and penny you spend. If any of your paperwork is "misplaced" (and it happens in the best of organizations...) the burden will be on you to replace it and/or convince the Academy that you sent it in a timely manner. The peace of mind you will have just knowing your items were received and signed for is priceless.

Hello. I'm visiting in Feb 10-11 (got a "guarentee of offer of appointment" in the end of september--is that the same as a LOA?) is anyone else visiting that wknd?

Any advice on what I should wear to my visit? Polo shirt or shirt+tie? Also, any suggestions on what I should bring (gym stuff, food, etc..)?

Thanks

Hey T,

I would advise a polo and khakis. Make sure you bring enough warm clothes to be comfortable. BRING sweats for SMT (Saturday Morning Training, you better do it). It is cold in the morning. You don't need food, they feed you enough. Most of the stuff you need is in your letter. Swimsuit is questionable, probably want to bring it to be on the safe side. You may want to bring a water bottle. Good to stay hydrated. Oh, and finally, bring...all your questions. Have fun.
