Silly question, but are we allowed to bring candles into our dorm room? I can’t live without Yankee scented candles. I only get the mini sized ones which I keep in a yankee candle glass which is very unlikely to let anything catch on fire.
I just googled “Cornell candle policy” and found a document entitled “House Rules 2014-15” which says:
Candles (wick or wickless) and incense are not allowed. Groups of students may request approval to burn candles for religious purposes.
A little further down the search results, House Rules 2015-16 says the same thing.
Unfortunately bodangles is right, candles are not allowed in dorm rooms. During room inspections (typically two throughout the year) if anything that breaks the house rules is found, it will be confiscated. If it’s a repeat offense there could be additional consequences depending on the severity. It could also set off the fire alarm. (They are very sensitive, sometimes burnt popcorn makes it go off)
Plus, the smell is offensive to some. That would be difficult to conceal.
Try a scented air freshener instead (if your roommate agrees).
DD’s dorm rules outlaws candles even if your don’t burn them.
The scent might be too much for everyone else in a small dorm room, anyway. Our family sneezes just walking past the Yankee Candle store at the mall.
Well you are in college now. You need to learn how not to live with a lot of things.
They are not allowed in the rules, but that doesn’t stop people from bringing them and using them.
