Just as an FYI, NU does not consider legacy as far as admissions.
Last I checked, NU considers legacy status:
Do you have more up-to-date information?
Interesting read. This must be a relatively newish policy. We have many legacies in our family including those who do interviews and for those alum it was always clear they didn’t consider legacies. Additionally as being from the area it was always known as such.
Thanks for pointing out that article. Very good to know they changed that policy.
I wonder if the OP eventually heard from NU, Princeton or other schools.
Another option is to look for unconventional funding, such as your local Rotary Club, church or congressman.
I also agree with the above poster that while the $180K debt may sound hefty, you could recoup it within years of graduation - if you do well enough at NU to land a decent-paying job at graduation.
Good luck.
I hear you. I am a single mom. My daughter doesn’t know her dad, last time we saw him she was a toddler. I am in that range where we don’t meet any diversity criteria, make just enough so we get very little or nothing for aid, but was not able to save as much as most of her dual parent income friends. She is an amazing student and kid. Tons of schools are crossed off her list because of the affordability issue. As people in my income range know, we pay high taxes but get zero of the “benefits.” Any schools that require info from both parents are off our list. He has high assets as a business owner but would never contribute a penny. Schools with the no merit awards “we make it affordable for everyone” aren’t actually talking to us. Those schools are crossed off the list. We will make it work somehow. More opportunity for the rest of you… She’s out of the competition at many of the top schools because of cost.
OP hasn’t responded to this since early December. closing.
