I’m currently a Junior in High School and I’m getting closer and closer to having to apply for college but I cannot decide on a major. I originally thought I would go into engineering, but I have come to doubt that I would enjoy it. I enjoy advanced math problems and tend to be very good at Algebra. While Physics is interesting to me I really do not like the type and amount of work it is. I don’t know if I could go through college doing that. I have the motivation and study habits to do well, but I doubt I’d be passionate about it. Now, if not engineering, I’m not sure what else I could do. I’m almost 100% sure I don’t want to go into a business related field.
About my interests/strengths:
I’ve thought about the medical field, mostly the cardiovascular branch of it. I am naturally a very good formal writer and have scored very high on essays since I was young. However, I hate reading. Writing comes easy and often enjoyable to me but I really do not like analyzing things I have to read. I’m very interested in trig and rather good at it, I could do identities quickly in Pre Calc and enjoyed doing them. I’m interested in computers as well as video games. Overall, I just like to learn. I’m a very curious person and enjoy learning facts whether they be historical or scientific. Other interests include singing, guitar, acting and sports (more watching than playing these days).
What type of majors and careers should I look into?
You’re a junior! Relax, you have plenty of time. I had no idea what I wanted to major in my junior year of college, and I cycled through several different majors. I did eventually manage to pick one and graduated in four years, so don’t worry.
Really, there’s not enough information here to suggest a major - or rather, it’s just that you have very diverse interests in a variety of fields. That’s fine; lots of people do. I mean, writing could go well with any humanities or social sciences major, but if you don’t like to read, then most of those will be rough for you (although college in general will be - there’s a lot of reading). You suggest an interest in math, but high school math is different from college math. Learning facts could go towards history (although college history majors are more about interpretation of historical events than learning facts) or a natural or physical science (although the same thing happens there in upper-level sciences). Your overall profile maybe points towards philosophy - loving to learn, being curious, being a good formal writer - but if you don’t like to read you might not like it.
You could always apply undeclared and then take some classes to find out what you like.
Why? Almost everything on the planet is “business-related,” for the sheer fact that most goods and services are produced/offered by businesses. You mean you don’t want to major in a business major, like accounting, finance, marketing, or management?
yeah im a junior too and I have no idea if I want to go business, engineering, or law
it annoys me so much when people are like “what do you wanna do!”
