Can't decide what i want to major in!?

I am going to the 11th grade and i know im “too young” to decide what i want to do with my life but i seriously cant figure it out. I’ve been wanting to be a veterinarian for a really long time, but my older brother says i shouldnt do it because “why would i want to help animals instead of people”. That doesnt matter to me because not everybody wants to be a people doctor. I really love animals and have since i was a little girl, but not only that i’ve had a stray cat as a pet before and i really would love to help animals, but im not sure if thats what i want to do for sure. After my brother told me veterinary school is dumb, which it isn’t, i thought about medical school and pediatrics. I love children of all ages and wouldn’t mind having a job surrounded by kids, but i feel like my heart is really just set on veterinary school. Please give me advice. I know i shouldn’t listen to my brother, it is my life after all. I’ve always loved animals and i’ve had 2 pets before (i know that doesn’t matter lol) but our first pet was a dog and the only reason we got him was because i always wanted a pet. Anyway, please help!!!

And i also don’t get queasy around blood

You don’t need to make up your mind for awhile. If you think you might want to attend vet school or medical school, be sure to take all the prerequisite classes to apply post undergrad but you don’t even need to major in a science. You could do pre-med or pre-vet curriculum with all kinds of majors. Don’t sweat it yet.

Best thing to do now is to shadow a vet. Go in and ask to shadow don’t just call or e-mail. Take a resume with you. Try to shadow for a day, a week, or a semester. The more you see a vet the more you will know if you want to do it. Start this summer! My son will be starting pre vet in the fall and has about 350 vet hours and is working for a vet this summer and also has over 1000 non vet animal hours. Start logging every hour you do something with an animal and what you did. Son got a journal his Soph year and started keeping track. It got him some great opportunities. Don’t listen to your brother go look for yourself. Med degrees pay better. Vets can end up with large debt. Just study it thoroughly.

If you go to veterinary school, are you ok with seeing blood? If not, Have you thought about studying Biology or Zoology in college and becoming a Zoologist? Have you thought about working at a zoo?
