I have a terrible GPA. I’ve written about it two other posts. I’ve pretty much given up hope of getting a job as an industrial engineer. What else can I do with an industrial engineering degree? Finance? Banking? I’m at a loss.
Do you know how to program? That seems to be what most people with engineering degrees do when they can’t find a job in their chosen specialty.
@simba9 I do to an extent, but I don’t like it… But it’s a job.
Yes, lower your expectations plus cast a wider net. It doesn’t have to be engineering. I suggest searching job sites like Indeed.com with “recent college graduate.” I did just now and saw some possibilities.
Also, employment agencies are powerful tools. A lot of jobs (some very good) are only filled through them. And using them gets someone else on your side.
Under most circumstances your GPA must be 3.0+ to get an engineering job. If it is below a 3.0, then unfortunately your chances of finding a well paid job are no higher than that of somebody who graduated with a liberal arts degree. You will probably have to look for jobs where they don’t have any major or GPA requirements, which are likely not engineering jobs and don’t pay the $50K+ salary expected for an engineer.
