With the SAT registration page having a server shutdown on its first day, and just the absurd demand that my area has for the SAT, I was unable to register for anything before October. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s how much my specific area demands the SAT. One shot on the SAT for EA is very risky. I cannot believe that I am going to be compared against people who are able to take the SAT in August/September just because of luck and just their area having more testing sites/lower demand. Does anyone know anything about CB opening more testing sites, or colleges acknowledging that it is merely impossible to take the SAT for specific areas in the country?
Obviously this isn’t ideal but you could sign up for a different test center that’s not in your area? You’d have to drive farther but there may be spots open in other areas.
You may have to travel if you want an earlier date. A parent on another post was unable to register outside her area (New York?) but was also either unwilling or unable to wait on hold on the phone to ask for assistance. If you are willing to call and sit on hold, you may have a better outcome.
It does seem to affect some areas much harder than others. My DD had her choice of all three fall dates and multiple test centers, and neither of us was expecting that.
What about looking for ACT test availability in your area? I have no idea how they are addressing the current demand, but perhaps there are seats available. I can’t think of any school that demands an SAT score over an ACT score.
