Cardiology

Hey guys! Does any one know the difference between Cardiology(Medicine) and Cardiology(Surgery), What is the occupation of each since both are considered Cardiologists? Sorry if I am posting in the wrong section or the questions have already been asked. Thanks in advance

You're thinking about Cardiology (Medicine) vs. Cardiothoracic Surgery. Cardiology doesn't cut people's chests open, split their ribs, and actually perform surgery on the heart. CT surgeons do.

Cardiologists are generally noninterventional. Some interventional cardiologists perform less invasive procedures with blood vessels (angioplasties and such). Cardiology is a fellowship following an internal medicine residency. It is very competitive to get into, pays well, but you'll have to work long hours.

Cardio-thoracic surgeons are surgeons. They do invasive procedures (surgery). CT surgery is currently not a tremendously competitive residency to get into due to the training involved: you must do a gen surgery residency followed by a fellowship. The training for CT surgeons is very long, even longer than for neurosurgeons and gen surgery is known to be a very long and grueling residency. In some years, there are more residency spots than applicants.
