I’m looking for some care package ideas for my daughter who is in College. I have done the generic packages before - cash, toothpaste, shampoo, lotion, candy and macaroni microwavables. But this Valentine’s Day I want to send her something fun and new. Please share any ideas, anything at all! Or what you plan on doing for your child this Valentine’s Day!
A little pricey…but I am thinking about my daughter Stitch Fix. I think she would like that!
Girl Scout cookies!
We sent a few of my daughters friends balls from a company called SENDaBALL - they actually send a personalized ball in the mail with stamps on it. We sent them at the beginning of the year and matched them to school colors but I see Valentines ones too. It must be durable because they all still had them when they were home over break.
We have had a local bakery send boxes of goodies on a few occasions. We ask them to send in the morning and then she can share them with her friends throughout the day. Have done a box of assorted cookies during final exams and send paczkis on mardi gras.
If she would enjoy some pampering, maybe a mask, some hand and body cream, body wash, nail files, etc. I’m not a girly sort, but it’s a treat to have some “products” that are more luxurious than the everyday variety I usually use. It also makes me (marginally ) more excited about getting out of bed in the morning.
If she wears pajamas, a nice pair is always welcome.
Oh my gosh, I just mailed off a care package to my son. All I can say is I think girls are WAY easier to send care packages too. There are no boy equivalents for nail polish, lotion, lip glass, costume jewelry, scarf, fun socks, cute dry erase boards, hair accessories, etc etc.
I ended up with lots of food for S, some candy but some microwavable things and beef jerky. I also sent hand sanitizer, a mini power charger, and an air freshener thing. There’s not a lot you can send to a guy that is a treat IMHO although I am open to suggestions!
Tory Burch as heart flip flops which I sent. Also, I sent some pajamas, fuzzy heart socks, heart stickers and conversation hearts, dove heart chocoloates. Target has a good selection of holiday items that go in care packages pretty economically
I usually sent a box of chocolates they could share with their friends.
Sending my D a Nordstrom egift certificate. She’s on a tight budget and will enjoy a little splurge there (or more likely, at Rack).
Godiva Chocolate (Costco has nice boxed ones) Girl Scout cookies, movie tickets and cash.
@thumper1 , I’m really liking that stitch fit. What does your daughter think about it?
I’ve never done Stitch Fix before…but my sister in law has, and she loves it. I just thought it would be fun. I might save it for DD’s birthday in March.
Not for everyone, but this is what we did. My DD lived in a spartan off campus apartment. We sent her a cake mix with some frosting in a container. We also included a set of measuring cups, a spatula, a big plastic mixing bowl and a pan to bake it in. She, obviously, likes to cook but didn’t have the stuff to do so. She enjoyed the package as did her roommates.
One year, S mentioned during a phone call he was “slammed with work” in his French class. I sent him a care package including a beret and 5 small boxes of Pepperidge Farms “Parisian” cookies. He loved the sentiment, and told me he brought them in to his class to share with them all. He told me he loved my creativity, and it made him feel like I was sending him a hug. Which of course, made me cry.
We need a heart button. :x
Last fall I sent my daughter a bunch of Halloween decorations for her room. Valentine’s Day stuff would be a hit too but maybe a little late at this point.
I’m headed home this afternoon to make heart shaped cookies. My DD always appreciates home cooking / baking. But, the ideas above have lead me to want to through in a cute pair of sandles too.
Heart shaped cookies are great! Little Debbie widely available in supermarkets has special valentine cakes and goodies for us non-bakers. Sandles and heart flip flops are great for our California kids!
This was for camp, but I once sent a care package with a bunch of group-type fun activities: Mad Libs, bubbles, those small really bouncy balls, sidewalk chalk, etc. I think college kids would enjoy getting silly every now and then. And, of course, all college kids like food!
For D13’s first year away at college, we signed up for Graze. A different snack box every month. She and her roommate reported they both loved it.
