For students: what's the best thing you've ever received in a care package from home?

Snacks, candies are usually the best. Homemade is even better.

AC-130

But really, just snacks that are alright, nothing that I’d kill for.

Efferescent Vitamin C pills.

Two pounds of ramen noodles from Taiwan that are hella delicious but very difficult (but not impossible) to find here.

I usually don’t like the economy in a care package, and it makes me cringe each time. However, the it’s nice to know that my parents think of me. :)

Well when i get presents usually its the wrong thing, so i would give money that way they can buy whatever they want. I was just reading to that they dont have enough printers in the dorm rooms, so if you sent a printer and lots of paper and ink they would really like that (and make some friends).

@ rhythmgaming

Hahaha I thought the same when I read the title. You have an accurate name.

And though I am still in high school, I know my sister and cousins are all crazy about receiving homemade cookies.

Nutella and crackers…best gift ever.

Homemade cookies. The best is not to tell your kid you’re sending them, so they’re just a fantastic surprise showing up one day.

If you don’t check your mail, they will just go bad…

Well, my hometown is about 45 minutes from Madison, and my dad works by the capitol (about 5 min. from campus). So my “care packages” are delivered in person. My favorite so far has been fresh laundry and a bag of white choc. chip and cranberry cookies.

Cookies? Why would you just want cookies? I would say definitely money and since its getting cold out some warm stuff to wear in the winter. Maybe some new snow boots. They always need food like ramen noodles and other stuff to eat in their rooms. And they always get sick alot, so tylenol and cough syrup would be good. I still think cash is the best, but a gift card somewhere like wawa or a supermarket might be good.

@kollegekid1 - People in college wouldn’t open up a package and be like “Yay! My mom sent me new boots for the snow! This is the best package ever!” The stuff you listed are basically necessities. I’d be grateful if my parents sent cough syrup, but I could walk a block down the street and buy some. Cookies are great because they’re homemade, and because you can just picture someone spending 30 minutes to an hour of their time making something special for YOU.

And money/gift cards are great and all, but there’s rarely much thought and care that go into them. I’m happy when my parents give me money for college stuff, but it doesn’t mean nearly as much as getting something homemade.

I don’t think kollegekid is in college yet…

My grandma sent me a handmade afhgan which was nice, anything thoughtful will be appreciated.

I never once received money in a care package… That sounds more like a gift then Mom and Dad saying, “Oh, hey! We love you! Here’s your favorite ____ we know you can’t get at school!”

My mom is a big baker and since I never had a kitchen at school, she would send me baked goods for special occasions–bdays, midterms, finals, muffins for getting up early to register for classes. I loved it and my friends started making requests.

my dad sends me cartoons he draws. best thing to look forward to ever!
