Career Path of an Industrial Engineer

I'm aware that the majority of IE grads work for manufacturers, but how likely is it that an IE grad could work in business or management?

Must ALL Industrial Engineers work at manufacturing plants/factories at some point? I feel like walking around with a clipboard and analyzing machines all day would be awful.

The career survey from Virginia Tech shows a sizable share of ISE graduates working in analyst positions with firms like Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, etc.

You’ll probably want to focus more on the operations research and systems engineering side of IE rather than ergonomics.
