Careers in Economics/Statistics

I am strongly considering a double major in Economics and Statistics, as I am fascinated by Econometrics. However I am concerned that there will be a lack of job opportunities once I graduate. I am looking at schools such as Brown, Northwestern, and Carnegie Mellon, just to give an idea of where I might attend. What career possibilities are there and how hard are jobs to come by in this field? Also, would I be stuck working in a cubicle the rest of my life? Thank you!

…well if you suck at econometrics, then there will indeed be a lack of jobs for you.

The entire field of business is open to that (which is the biggest field of all)
Research positions (academia).
Public policy positions (i.e. government, nonprofits, think tank).
Actuarial jobs (insurance).
