Carleton vs. Oberlin vs. Northwestern vs. UChicago vs. Grinnell

<p>I’ve heard the neuroscience program at Oberlin is good, if that’s the same thing, but I don’t really know much about it.

<p>I’m not sure what you mean by “education” fwiw Oberlin recently instituted a Master’s in Teaching program.

but maybe that’s not what you’re referring to…</p>

<p>I’ve decided to pursue the Law and Society major at Oberlin with a concentration in Cognitive Science or Cognitive Science major at Northwestern.
Why is it so hard to decide!!</p>

<p>"Why is it so hard to decide!! "
because you have a number of very appealing choices.</p>

<p>But decide you must.</p>

<p>Suggest think about where you can best see yourself thriving over the next four years.</p>

<p>Do you think it’s wise to choose a place where you are comfortable or unfamiliar so that you may have a chance to experience something new? In other words, out of your bubble.</p>

<p>To me:
At start, comfortable is better.
However it is possible that eventually comfortable evolves to routine and/ or confining.
At that point unfamiliar is better.
Of course, you may not ever reach that point, in which case comfortable stays better for the duration. And if you do reach it you can transfer.</p>

<p>And then, on the other hand, it may not really take as long as one may suppose for initially unfamiliar to become comfortable. Despite how it may seem before taking it on.
And in that event, the chances of evolving to routine/ confining may be lower.</p>

<p>But IMO you probably should ignore this rant and just take your best guess as to what seems best for you, going with gut if necessary.</p>

<p>Good luck.</p>

<p>AHH I’m choosing btwn Oberlin and NU too!
I want to go to Oberlin more because it has MUCH more of a campus feel. my sister goes there and LOVES it. i actually visited NU this weekend and talked to some of the students on campus… they said you really have to work to get a community feeling and you have to seek out profs pretty intensely to get to know them.
the one thing holding me back from saying yes to oberlin is that i know northwestern has a wider array of classes to choose from and I’m interested in many things (one of which may be engineering; oberlin has no engineering program).
that said, if you have a specific interest and oberlin has the program you want, i say go for oberlin.</p>
