@grtd2010 average GPA for CS was 3.91 last year for admitted students, & average ACT was 35.
SAT subject tests are required (for example: Math and Physics)— in addition to either an ACT or SAT
do you know if they send out mail to the permanent address or alternative address? Because I put different address for both…
@charcoalatey2021 In past years they have mailed the letters via priority shipping. It’s actually a large folder – if you’re admitted – dubbed the “FAT letter”. FAT doesn’t stand for anything.
Some letters have gotten to applicants on the day prior to the midnight of decision release; most get to applicants after decisions have been released online.
@MandomeLife
Do international admits receive these letters too? (I understand that if they do, it’ll probably be after online decision release.)
FAT is not exactly an acronym, the etymology goes something like this. There are two types of envelopes that CMU sends to the application. The first is an acceptance, the other is a rejection. The rejection is a thin white envelope. The acceptance is a big fat envelope. The former used to be acronymed TWE and the latter used to be acronymed the BFE. People then started calling it simply the fat envelope instead of BFE.
@derpro i called and they said international students will receive their letters but it would probably arrive like a week after the admission result is posted.
@derpro @sonia1216 In past years, most international applications either received their FAT letter late or not at all.
@reformedman interesting side bar. Mom of High school senior here. Not sure about the acronyms (BFE & TWE) but I can say that 39 years ago when I was in the same boat as our son, the regular question to someone receiving a admissions letter via snail mail (only thing at the time) was-Is it FAT? I remember looking at envelopes being afraid to open and guessing on outcome based on the weight and thickness of the envelope.
@chel17 I’m in the same boat as you waiting for my son’s decision from CMU. Back in the dark ages, we called them “thick” or “thin” envelopes. I received three envelopes exactly on Ivy Day (April 15th back then) which were sent regular mail. In retrospect, I guess I should have been surprised that they all showed up that timely.
my brother who works at CMU admissions says decisions will come out on march 25 @midnight
Has anyone gotten the email that they tweeted we would get today? With the decision date?
I haven’t received any email. Also my attestations is marked as received on March 20.
Yeah where’s that email…
No email here either. My son’s attestations are marked as received on March 17. It’s not clear if everyone who applied for financial aid had the date for their attestations change or not. I know my son signed them back in January.
Just noticed son’s attestations are now marked March 20. They were updated to March 17 earlier (I think that day) and before that they had an earlier date.
@momof3co Mine changed as well from the 17th to the 20th.
@momof3co @math3matical The dates change on every business day.
@momof3co @math3matical Same
That seems kind of weird but guess it must not mean anything… ?
So I guess there’s not going to be an email coming out today?
