Carnegie Mellon Class of 2021 Applicants Discussion Thread

Do we know when decisions come out?

@nbt012 Putting my trust in that higher power :)>-

But curiosity always gets the best of me.

My portal also has the march 17th update

As per the admission’s office, they will mail out letters on 3/23, and students can go online on Sunday, 3/26 and check there if no mail by then.

My son is a National Merit finalist with a 35 ACT and great subject tests and 5s on his APs. 3.67 unweighted GPA, but an all honors load. Real work experience as a software engineer. Applying to SCS. Rejected from MIT and CalTech, so this nervous mom isn’t getting much sleep.

@sbg838 where’d you find that?

I called the admissions office to ask. That’s what they told me.

here are the stats from the cmu website…they are correct as to a 13.7% admission rate for last year.

https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/undergraduate-admission-statistics

The 13.7% statistic is accurate. I just crunched the numbers with number accepted/overall applicants, and it comes out to 13.65%.
FYI, number enrolled/all applicants comes out to 4.14%.

The 13.7% statistic is accurate.

CMU lists the acceptance rates of each of their colleges here:
https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/undergraduate-admission-statistics

@acmudad @destressed The 13.7% figure looks at every unique application, not the unique applicant – it does not consider that Carnegie Mellon allows applicants to apply to up to three colleges within the university.

You can retrieve a more accurate figure using the data here: https://www.cmu.edu/ira/CDS/cds_1617.html

Guys, the 13.7% figure is wrong. What @MandomeLife said is correct.

@sbg838 so you called admissions and they really said that?

@sbg838 SCS acceptance rate is 6% and they have 50-50% male/female ratio. Is 3.67 unweighted GPA sufficient for SCS at CMU ? What are subject test scores ?

CMU Admissions said on Twitter we will receive an email today regarding a decision date.

Decisions are going to be mailed out on 23rd and should be online two days after that as per office of admissions.

@parentBS2013 Do you happen to know if they mail the decisions with priority shipping? I was just wondering if I should expect the decision by mail on the 24th or a later date.

Don’t know, ask the admissions office.
