@Ynotgo Congrats! Waiting on more choices, or enrolling to CM for Fall?
@2sunny Waiting on more choices and he already has some good choices. Essentially needs to decide if his life plan is physics or CS. All other schools he applied to physics. I need to set up a trip to visit again. Last time he was there was 10th grade.
@MatSciBME Thanks for the explanation! I was accepted as unrestricted CIT student. A major relief to know that I can choose any major in the CIT.
Anyone has any idea why all CMU email IDs I see are at andrew.cmu.edu?
@HB1999 Structured that way to acknowledge Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Mellon.
My S17 got into Detrietich. He has been away and could not sign into portal. Does anyone one know how financial award information is conveyed?
Collge tution is there at CMu website. Please can body guide us how much is the yearly cost .How many of students get financial aid or scholarship
My daughter got accepted into CMU Sch of CS! Her first choice
@psycholing on the last paragraph of his congratulations acceptance letter you will find his student id, take that and his last name and his birthdate to the admissions portal and you will find a button that says financial aid. Click the financial aid button and all the costs breakdown will be on the 2nd page.
My son got accepted but with zero aid…$70,000+…wow, I was expecting a little help!
@reformedman - first congrats to your son on receiving the overweight (but hopefully not postage due) letter! Second, I like the new avatar Third, I think MCS makes lots of offers and has a relatively low enrolled rate - about 23% if my math is correct. Looking at last year: https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/undergraduate-admission-statistics
SCS is at 40% enrolled, CFA 39%, DC 26%, Engineering 32%, TPR 28% and IS 55%.
Lots of variables involved - financial aid is obviously a biggie but also in this age of the Common App potentially acceptances from many other schools, some perhaps perceived to be better. I don’t envy how the schools have to juggle all this as the number of apps continues to rise every year - while I think the student base remains roughly the same.
@skepticalofmost Yes, I got 22.6% also. Racking my mind since waking up this morning trying to figure out how to come up with $58,500 x 4. We have a safety to fall on, but after trying and failing this morning to haggle with fin-aid it looks like my avatar may have to change yet again. I’m going to hold on to hope in the dream that an epiphany will appear and show me that I overlooked an easy solution that was under my nose all this time. Doubtful but still hoping. I wish I knew about college costs 18 years ago.
What’s your take on all this with you and yours?
Does anyone know anything about the presidential scholarship? I apparently received it, but can find no information about it. I am very surprised since I don’t think my scores fall into an ‘exceptional’ category…
So, is the financial aid info showing up in the portal now?
Also, what about merit scholarships? Are they out yet? And are they in the financial aid section, if so?
@doody1425 The Presidential Scholarship is one of the highest award designations you can receive as a First Year. You’re highly desired at Carnegie.
I’ve PMed you with more details. Congratulations on receiving it.
@obsessivemom Yes, it would be posted under your financial aid letter.
OK, thanks!
Still unable to see any financial aid information; it says that it is still in process…
