Carnegie Mellon Class of 2021 Applicants Discussion Thread

How do you know the decisions for second and third choice schools? My SCS acceptance letter didn’t mention those… Should I assume rejection?

@rustydreams Mine specifically told me rejection, so I would assume you got in but they didn’t give you a spot since you got into your first choice.

@sunnydo165 I haven’t gotten any emails from them either, I was wondering the same thing. It’s kind of odd that they haven’t sent any follow up information.

@InfiniteLibrary Here’s the prompt and response :stuck_out_tongue:

Prompt: If there was an interruption during your secondary school or collegiate experience or between your
secondary school and collegiate experience (gap year(s)) when you were not enrolled and as a result,
not making normal academic progress, please explain the reason for the interruption.

Response: For some reason, this essay is marked as required for me even though I never had a gap year. I’m just going to write a quick haiku about cheese with this space to appease Common App.
Cheesy Goodness

Cheese is delicious
Parmesan, Cheddar, Gouda
Delicious milk curds.

^ sounds like you spent your gap year eating (or making?) cheese. As good a reason as any…

@combustion984 - I’m perplexed. What’s your first choice? Was it CMU? If not, why do you care if you weren’t accepted? Or are you so ego-driven you want EVERY school to accept you?

As you might tell, I have no pity/sympathy for you. You have good options, why are you complaining? I’ll stop here - there is far more I could say but, to be honest, I’m glad you will not be ‘gracing’ CMU w your presence. You will be better off elsewhere.

No need to show off, man. @combustion984

Did anyone else get the “unique admission ID” in their acceptance letter? I’m not sure where to use it or what to use it for.

@tkdjj44 You have to use it when you register for admitted students events and things like that

You can also use it to access your ‘where am i in the process’ website to see your financial aid and other information about your application.

Do you any of you know when we should expect to receive our financial aid package?

Does anyone happen to know roughly how many students end up choosing to join the priority waitlist?

@alexa2143 According to this website, 2835 students, but only 4 got off the waitlist… http://admissionado.com/college/class-of-2020-waitlist-admission-rates-and-notification-dates/

@riceycakes thank you! is that regular waitlist and priority waitlist combined?? yikes… that doesn’t sound promising…

My S was admitted for CS!

@alexa2143 It seems like its combined. If that were the stats for Class of 2020, I doubt it’ll be any different for the class of 2021.

@SkepticalOfMost @crazyTM I don’t think he’s showing off or ego driven. In fact, I think the opposite. For some, if you get rejected by a school, it makes you think if you were accepted to the others by accident. It’s a bad feeling to have, and probably unwarranted, but either way I don’t believe that he had any negative intentions.

well, maybe ‘showing off’ is not proper. But that person has received MIT’s offer and MIT is stronger than CMU in literally every aspect, I dont understand why he’s upset. Also, college admission is unpredictable, AOs dont have to admit you even when you are qualified. I’m just saying that we should stay optimistic (:
no offence intended
@sneharams

@Shrilkshire You are pure awesomeness.

One tell tale indicator is that he created that account only to write that as his first post. I remember seeing his post-count when he wrote it which is why I didn’t say anything because I don’t like feeding trolls. If he wrote that with some legitimate amount of posts under his belt, I would have written exactly what @SkepticalOfMost wrote.
