Carnegie Mellon Pre-college vs, Interlochen

Which pre-college program is better Canegie mellon Musical theater or Interlochen 3 weeks of Musical theater and three weeks of Rock Band (vocalist). My daughter is a musician, singer, and actress finishing her junior year in high school.

My son did Interlochen 6-wk MT program and progressed SO MUCH in that time that we put him in as a full time student for senior year. It’s a great program. There are some differences between the 3 week and the 6 week. Check out the show - I’m not sure the 3 week does a full fledged musical but the 6 week does and it was phenomenal. If she wants to study MT in college, I’d do MT and not split the time with Rock Band, personally. Although she’d have fun. I will tell you that the MT kids work all day and don’t get to do some of the activities that are planned because they’re in rehearsal so it might depend on how hard your daughter wants to work and if she wants to do a show.

My S did 2 summers of music performance at Interlochen. It’s a serious place and everyone knows it. It filled up his repertoire sheet to the point where we pruned out anything from high school band or easy material. He says that MT is very serious too. They offer elective classes, but he dropped those the 2nd summer because he wanted some free time. He would be returning this summer if he didn’t need to get a job to put away some spending money for freshman year of college. If she’s looking for an opportunity to push her limits and to be challenged Interlochen Arts Camp is a great choice.
