Carnegie Mellon transfer to Yale / Stanford / Columbia after freshman year

How hard is it to transfer from cmu to stanford / columbia / yale after freshmen year?
i am trying to match the course requirements for the first year students for all three schools in cmu…

Very difficult. These schools accept very few transfers.

Why are you transferring? (They will want to know this)

Did you apply to any of these schools as a senior? Were you accepted?

My opinion. You should matriculate as a freshman with the intention of staying put. Put your all into being the best student possible while you are there. You would need to do that anyway if you want to transfer at some point.

If you plan to transfer after freshman year, your HS record is what will be used because you will be submitting applications long before you complete your freshman year.

If you applied to and were rejected as a HS senior, don’t expect to be accepted if you apply again.

Or at least give it more than eight school days.

Yale accepted 15 transfer students last year. Stanford was 65 and Columbia doesn’t have a CDS. Many of the Stanford are likely athletic transfers.

Why do you want to transfer? What is your major (or likely majors)?

I noticed something on a Harvard College web site the other day. Among what they look for in transfer students, they specifically mention “A clearly defined academic need to transfer”. I would expect Stanford, Columbia, and Yale to have a similar preference for students who have a good reason to want to transfer.

Given how very strong CMU is, I would have trouble guessing why you might want to do this.

Also, you are at a very strong university. Expect classes to start to get difficult relatively quickly. Expect that at least some of your exams will be tougher than what you are used to.
