For those who do not have enough for their portfolio, Carnegie Mellon offers a design project. Has anyone done it? When it says to draw an actual hand held object and create it out of black construction paper, should it be an already created object or an object your created yourself. Do anyone know how this project actually challenge one’s design ability?
Hi there, I’m a current Design major at Carnegie.
The object should follow the sequence of instructions (i.e observational line, graytone, then composite image with construction paper). Your former question is related to your latter question. How challenging it is is dependent on how you decide to approach it. As they state in the pdf file, “If any instructions are incomplete or unclear you decide what would be the best way to proceed.” That being said, it’s up to you to decide to develop three drawings of an imaginary object, or an object that’s already created. There are no wrong answers.
Going back to your latter question, the Design projects acts an very brief introduction to the idea of process – how you approach an assignment, and the methods involved in reaching a resolved product. I won’t say any more past that, as you’ll learn what challenges you and what doesn’t as you go through each assignment.
Hope that helped. If you have any more questions regarding the project, portfolio, or general campus life as a Design major, feel free to shoot me a note here, or via private message.
Ok, I got it. Thank you so much !
