Carol Christ resigning as president

Carol Christ Resigning as President Association of Smith College Alum Blogs

Well and good. One of the few negatives about Smith in my book.
Yes, she has some laudable accomplishments.

This isn’t news. This was announced several weeks ago. I think “resign” is the wrong word here…I think she’s retiring. She is nearing 70 years old and has served over ten years. Not sure what your problem is with her but I think she’s done a good job in difficult times. My two cents as they say.

Looking back at Smith history, ten years is the typical term for a President.

Jill Ker Conway 1975-85
Mary Maples Dunn 1985-95
Ruth Simmons likely would have served ten years but took the presidency at Brown.

TheDad, I guess it’s safe to assume you won’t be attending Carol’s going away party?

I think she is one of the best college presidents in the nation, and I’ll be sad to see her leave. (People of good will can differ. ;))

Mini: yes.
Crew Dad: probably not a good idea. I might be tempted to slip something into the punch or sprinkle banana peels in her path. I rarely go for vindictiveness. For her, I’ll make an exception. It’s a very short list.

I think she’s a miserable excuse for a human being.
Dishonest and manipulative for starters, goes downhill from there.

B51, I’ve had experiences with everyone from sub-par principals to pastors where my
attitude became, “I was here before you. I’ll be here after you.”

Carol Christ has not stopped me from extolling the virtues of Smith nor appreciating what a great place it is.

TheDad I can’t see how anyone could have a conflict with you…noo sir. :D

A decade as a university/college president is plenty. Sounds like Smith
continued to fulfill its’ mission during Carol Christ’s tenure. Ten years provides
ample time for any university/college president to step in it a few times-- leadership
works that way! She strikes me as a class act.

.02 David

BN, I’ll give you that she’s a very good politician.
I’ve worked on Capitol Hill and I know the
ingratiating smile and all the deft little touches.
She’d fit right in.

B51, actually, most people don’t have conflicts with me.
Only authority figures that are…BS artists.

Though, funny, when I stand up to speak in office meetings,
I notice even the company president and our corporate counsel
get looks on their face of “oh God…what’s he going to say this time”
and exhale with relief afterward half the time.

The nice thing is, in exchange, they’ve never attempted to BS me.
Which I appreciate.

All well and good…however I prefer judge people based on my own observations and experiences, not someone else’s. Since you’ve apparently had bad ones, I respect your feelings. But I cannot embrace them as my own. Last I’m going to say on the subject.
