Carrol VS Arts and Sciences Economics

I am planning on applying to Boston College in the fall. I would like to pursue a major in Economics, or at least that is what I am thinking right now. However, I am not sure whether I should select it through the College of Arts and Sciences or the School of Management. I believe I would like to go to law school someday, however if that does not work out, I would pursue a career in business so I feel it would be better to select CSOM. However, business schools have a reputation of being more difficult to get into than Arts and Sciences. I do not want to risk not getting in to the school just because I applied to CSOM when I could have had the same major in A&S. Any opinions on which I should do are welcome. I will post my stats below because that will aid in any advice people can give. Thanks!

ACT:33C, 35E, 28M, 34R, 33S

GPA:3.86 Unweighted 4.089 Weighted

I will graduate with 6 AP Classes-AP Euro, AP Stats, AP Physics 1, AP English 12, AP Government, and AP Econ. I also took an American studies course through Kenyon College junior year.

I also have spent two summers interning at one of Ohio’s U.S. senators campaign.

Any information is helpful!

Your stats are very good - I would say you have a great shot of CSOM, assuming your essays and recs are good as well. I don’t want to tell you one way or another which school to apply to, however. Perhaps its worth giving the school a call to learn about the differences between majoring in econ through A&S and through CSOM. I will say that CSOM has a better reputation. So following graduation, if you are looking for a business job, it will look much better to have a CSOM degree. Boston College is an excellent school all around though so you really can’t go wrong. Good luck!!

My advice is to apply to CSOM. At the current moment, you cannot internally transfer into CSOM, so if you think you have any inclination to have a business degree, apply to CSOM. You can always double major outside of the business school, and there is an Economics concentration in CSOM. Also, I think you have the stats to get into CSOM. Good luck! Go eagles!!
