So, I have a question - How many of you are going to take you cars with you? This has been a big debate at my school among all of us seniors, and quite a few are taking their cars or getting new ones wherever they go. Sadly, I cannot take my car to NYU, that would be suicidal. Which leads to another question, all of you who are leaving your cars behind, what do you do with them? I have a very nice car that is only a year and a half old, but does one sell it to get some money or let it sit idle except for the long christmas and summer breaks? Let me know how your family has solved this dilemma.

I'm taking my car... Honda Accord. I know kids who couldn't take their car last year and most did NOT sell. I guess they wanted it over their breaks and summer. Last year when I thought I wouldn't be taking any car to college(all the colleges I was looking at were in cities) I sold my Mustang and got an Accord thinking that I'd just leave that with my parents(they'd much prefer to have an Accord than a Mustang LOL)... but things change and now my college is in the middle of nowhere and I really want to bring a car.

... but none of these cars are really "mine" just driven by me exclusively and paid for and owned by my parents. So, I'm really not considering car payments and such. All of my friends who are paying for their cars (though car payments or whatever) are selling thiers. You also have to consider the cost of insurance. If you have to pay for that, it's a big chunk of change for the convenience during winter and summer breaks.... not sure if that's worth it.

Thanks for your advice, anovice. Yeah, my parents bought the car (Mercedes CL500 Coupe) and then gave me driving rights. We are not making car payments and my insurance has remained low knock on wood, so I probably will leave the car behind.

it'd come in handy during breaks...and your parents could use it while you're gone to school....i dunno, i'd be lost w/o my car...but I live in southwest virginia and went to va. tech this year...i commuted often...and next year i'm going to UVa so i'll be doing quite a bit of commuting there as well....it really depends on where you go to school and how much you rely on your car at home/how often you're planning on being home during the year.
