Hey I was just wondering what the difference was between CAS and Wharton Econ as stated in the title. Is one a better program than the other? Is Wharton more business-related? Which would be more beneficial for a career in law or is there no difference?

Thank you!

CAS Econ is theoretical econ, like you’d get at Harvard or Yale or Princeton. It’s a BA in Economics. The Wharton BS in Economics is completely different–there is little purely theoretical econ required. Instead of a typical liberal arts BA in a social science like a CAS degree would be, a Wharton BS is meant to provide practical “business” education, somewhat similar to the content of an MBA. Wharton is more competitive and arguably more prestigious in the business world than Penn CAS, but if you want a general, liberal arts foundation before law school, CAS would be better. If you want to become a finance or tax lawyer…Wharton’s probably the better way.
