Case enrollment more than 1100!!

FYI, my D was notified today at her webmail@case email account, ie <a href="https://mail.cwru.edu/%5B/url%5D">https://mail.cwru.edu/</a> of her dorm assignment (in Smith House). By logging into your Housing site <a href="http://housing.case.edu/myhousing%5B/url%5D">http://housing.case.edu/myhousing</a> , you can see your roommate's name, address, email, etc.

I think some freshman are being placed in dorms on the south side. I don't know about the dining hall there.

WS17 - my son got his housing assignment today. He is one of the ones assigned to the south side. No word about the dining hall. Someone said only 100 freshman are being assigned to the south side but are not sure about that. Single room for him.

This is from the New Resident FAQ, <a href="http://studentaffairs.case.edu/living/housing/opening/faq.html%5B/url%5D">http://studentaffairs.case.edu/living/housing/opening/faq.html</a></p>

Due to the size of this year's incoming class, our Residential Colleges within the North Residential Village could not accommodate all first-year students. Because we believe strongly in the Residential College environment for first-year students, we decided to create a fourth college within the South Residential Village -- the Cedar Residential College.

Room selection for returning students was completed well before we knew the size of the incoming class. The space that we had available to house the additional first-year students is within the South Residential Village. The SRV will be home not only to the Cedar Residential College, but also to upperclass students and Greek houses.

Every residential college has the same staffing structure: a full-time first-year coordinator, a graduate assistant first-year coordinator, resident assistants and learning assistants.

The services in the south village are comparable to those offered in the north:

* Tutoring
* Supplemental Instruction
* 24-hour study space
* Housing Area Office
*

Dining commons with full-service dining

 • Seminar and study rooms within each building

Our residential college staff is available to help students feel comfortable in their assigned community. Room changes can be requested starting in the third week of class for the fall semester. Our ability to accommodate room change requests is based on available space. [/quote]

Thanks for the info.

Wow, that's a ton different than what they told us all last year! I'm glad that the freshmen on southside will have a cafeteria and everything else available to them...along with the shorter walk to classes... now why didn't they let me into the southside dorms? :)

are the structure of the dorms on the southside different from the north village? are the dorms in "better" or "worse" condition?

The southside dorms are arranged in suites that contain 6 single rooms with a bathroom. They are newer than the northside dorms by a few years and I would say they're in "better" condition, but all of the dorms at Case are in pretty good shape.

I was wondering how big this year's class will be. Here is some data.

<a href="http://admission.case.edu/db.htm%5B/url%5D">http://admission.case.edu/db.htm</a></p>

Not as big as last year (1219), but another large class (1057) compared to 2004 (771).

I wonder how this class compares for SAT scores ,etc.

Thanks for sharing this info! I am now intensely curious to find out if I ended up in the southern housing; as an incoming freshman I had just been assuming I'd end up on the North side...also, I'm not suprised that the class is larger for this year--"they" say that it was particularly tough to get into competitive schools, and as Case plays a big role for many students as a second-tier choice to Ivies/Stanford/Duke etc (not to put it down or something, I'm thrilled about going to CWRU next year), I'm wouldn't be suprised if a lot of students sort of defaulted into CWRU...just my 2 cents. I would expect that acceptence/thus class size will be less next year to compensate...thoughts?

anyone know if this is the size of our Case class this year? Or are they going to take more off waitlist. 1,000 some odd sounds like a good number so I hope they don't go to waitlist (Sorry anyone on it). Anyone talked to admissions?

actually, we had 1150 freshman begin school last year.

sysiphus: from all I've heard around campus, my understanding is that all freshman will be on northside. There are currently 2 dorms on northside inhabited by sophomores, and I think all sophomores will be on southside next year, so those will probably be open to incoming freshmen. Also, all the upperclassmen (considered juniors and seniors for housing purposes) will be in the apartments (Village at 115 and other university owned apartments close by. A lot of upperclassmen used to live in Clarke Tower, but I think that it is only special interest housing next year (possibly some sophomores too)...

Just a note, most of this thread is from last year. I expect all freshman will be on north side in Fall 06. The sophmores will mostly be in south side, already assigned for Fall 06. I heard there is still space available in Clark and that the Village did not get completely filled for next Fall (it costs more).

Last year, no one was admitted off the waitlist at Case. But that varies year to year. That chart says their goal is 1050 and that 1057 made deposits for Fall 06. So who knows. Not everyone that places a deposit enrolls.

I'm curious about whether the incoming SAT scores improved again this year.

Admissions was aiming for a class of 1,000 this year, so looks like it worked out pretty well.
And the smallness of my class ('08) was particularly unexpected and not aimed for; I think they were going for 850-900 that year and definetely fell short.

Has anyone else heard of the supposedly higher number of females than males (2006) ?

That would be kind of interesting if it were true...since there is a 60/40 m/f ratio right now, perhaps this year will be something of an equalizer???

i realllly hope so :)

I second that jake

That's depressing. I was really excited to have more males than females...:p

^Naturally, I see it the opposite way ;)
