*** Case Western Reserve Class of 2022 Applicants***

from admissions: "I’m writing this quick note to let you know how and when we plan to provide admission notification to students who have applied to Case Western Reserve University.

Applicants will receive an email providing a link to the secure webpage with their admission status Tuesday, March 20. We will begin sending these email notifications around 8 p.m. Eastern. Students who have submitted their required financial aid materials will be able to see their financial aid package online."

Results will release tmrw - Good luck everyone. Be proud of what you have accomplished, regardless the outcome. It has been a very competitive season everywhere.

CWRU WL a lot of applicants in last couple of years, but they do accept a fair number from the list. So being WL’ed is not the end of journey like in many other schools.

CWRU is a top school for the STEM majors, based on what I gather from friends in academia. If one can handle the pressure and do well from CWRU, esp. in the health sciences and engineering, top grad/med schools and employers do take note.

CWRU is among the top 2 schools for my S’s final decision (CWRU vs JHU now) coming May 1st.

PS: Son got in EA round w/ merit aid.

Email came out admission notifications tomorrow 8EST

Crossing fingers son deferred EA. Hopefully due to their yield and will accept now. He wrote another essay why he still wanted to attend CW

@Mickey2Dad You referred to “if one can handle the pressure”…is CWRU known as a very high pressure school? All we know is it’s well known for STEM and highly urban. We did visit, but it was during the summer so we didn’t get a real feel for the vibe.

My S was accepted with good merit in EA, and so he is considering it. But if it is super high pressure (without some great social outlets, that I’m not sure it has) then maybe not a great choice for my S. Do you consider the pressure like JHU?

Congrats on Johns Hopkins, @Mickey2Dad ! What happened to U Mich?

@appalachymom

if you don’t mind me asking, what were your S’ stats?

@maddieportnoy18 No problem. S has a 36 ACT, GPA 3.9/4.3, high rigor with 12 APs by graduation, SAT Math 2 790, Chem 800, NMF, AP Scholar with Distinction, no school rank

Hi @Winky1 - yeah, it was shocker for our family last Friday. We have written JHU off as it is a super-reach school. Mom and eldest sister are both alums, maybe that and the perfect senior yr grades (4.0 uw and 4.85 w) helped. S never really liked UMIch (he said it was too big, too rah rah for him) but we pushed him to apply and got accepted (and couple of his friends were applying then, so he was ok to apply). Right now we are figuring out the costs and there seem to be an error with the JHU finance documents… so will see. We are very excited with either schools. Both are excellent schools for bio-medicine, biophysics type of studies.

Well that’s all great stuff @Mickey2Dad , sincere congratulations

Hi @appalachymom - I don’t mean to scare you. As for pressure, the weeding out pressure for JHU pre-meds is crazily intense. So I wouldn’t say CWRU situation is anywhere like that. That said, CWRU is well known for its vigor in health sciences and engineering studies, at par with the Ivies, and it is definitely not a place you would go in there and slide by w/o serious work. A friend of mine is working at Cleveland Clinic as a lead researcher/doc and he told me social life around CWRU is decent and not as dangerous a place as people make it out to be.

both my son and I got the email that decisions will be out tomorrow 8am EST

Anyone else hear anything more
relating to the "mistake " email sent by Case last Friday inviting certain students to register for an Admitted Student Event? Now in addition to the confirmation and parking pass we have for an event, they sent another email today with details of the visit and what a sample schedule looks like. I am very nervous my D will be denied or waitlisted after getting all of these emails. I told her I want to see the official acceptance before I get excited, but she and her friends are thinking she’s in. Anyone else get an apology email saying the first email was a mistake? We have not received any such email. Will be awful if she’s not accepted now.

nothing here

@Winky1 I don’t think we will hear anything else about the mysterious email. I’m sure Case is hoping everyone already forgot about it. In addition, unlike most schools, I think anyone can go into the web site and sign-up for the admitted student events, even if they haven’t been admitted. We aren’t getting too excited about that e-mail since we’ve already been disappointed once by Case. Everyone should know its significance, or lack thereof, in about 24 hours.

8 p.m. not a.m.

Oh it is pm

@Mickey2Dad Thank you for info about rigor and social life at CW. S wants strong academics and smart peers, but he also wants good social life (not partying specifically, but more playing sports and watching sports with friends during free time). He was rejected at JHU, which I am not disappointed about because I thought that the pressure reputation was NOT what S really wants. I was not in favor of him applying, but did not tell him. He only applied last minute because of possibility of joining D3 sports team with a casual email from coach. But that was during RD with no coach support. S has also heard from CW coach.

Just want to wish you all good look, especially any candidates that were deferred from EA.

thanks @Winky1
