CAT vs. Paper

Hi everyone!

I am about two weeks away from taking the GRE and I've been practicing using an ETS printed book with old paper tests in it. My scores have been roughly in range for what I am aiming for, but I am horribly worried that, although I am doing well with the paper practices, I won't be ready for the CAT exam. Because of the adaptive nature of the CAT, should I expect my score to decrease from paper practice exams or is the CAT that smart that things will even out?

I guess I'm just wondering if the paper tests tend to overestimate your score compared to taking a CAT exam? I have been trying to find an online CAT practice but I'm finding it difficult as I have a Mac. If anyone has any suggestions for finding a CAT (free or purchased) I would be so grateful.

There’s an on-line subscription from Kaplan for $199 that uses CAT practices. I know people who found it very helpful. And apparently the practices themselves adapt to your strengths and weaknesses.

I don’t have a link but it should be easy to find.

My suggestion is to keep taking the Powerprep software exams until they are exhausted. Everytime you start, there will be a new sequence of questions (although some are overlapped after a few trials). The difficulty is quite accurate in my opinion.

^ And also play around with it. I purposely got first few wrong, or every 4th, etc. just to see what my score would be. Even when you exhaust it, it is pretty accurate! It is weird, I was worried about it because of repeats, but it was pretty much the same as my final mark even though so many q’s repeated by the end.
