This summer, I want to get some credit hours at a local CC. However, I will take these classes between my enrollment at a university and my graduation from high-school. So, I wouldn’t be a transient student or a joint-enrollment student for the university I will be attending.
I called the admissions office, and a young sounding student answered. I asked him if this would be allowed, and he said is would, “…plenty of students take classes over the summer as transient students.” When I explained that I wasn’t a transient student yet, he still said it would be fine.
I still feel uneasy about taking a class in-between enrollment. I don’t want to get in trouble or get kicked out of a university for breaking a violation.
Has anyone taken a class in between hs and college and found that this works out? Parents? I don’t care about credit, I just really need to refresh my spanish before college.

If you don't care about credits and are just doing it to refresh your spanish, why not just sit in on the class without enrolling? Purchase the textbooks and do the homework on your own and just don't show up test days and you'll get the refreshment you need without the fear of violating any agreement with your prospective college.

That is an interesting idea, but I would need a parking pass to attend, and that requires being a student. I also would feel awkward sitting in a class of 20-30 students without actually being a student. Good idea, I just don't see myself doing that.

look on the website of the college(s) you are interested in to find out if a summer class is ok. This is pretty standard, so you should be able to find it mentioned. At ucla, for example, they say "If you plan to attend a college summer session immediately after graduating from high school or have completed college work while in high school, the University still considers you a freshman applicant."

i'm doing the same thing, i'm getting some gen. ed classes out of the way like composition I, and stuff like that. I e-mailed the admissions office, and all they said was that i needed to make sure the credits will transfer. They also said that they'd prefer that i take the class at the university, but it's not against the rules or anything. so that's my experience with that.

I don't see this as a big deal. If you have already been accepted, why not e-mail the adcom and/or the Department chair, explain that you want a refresher, and ask if its ok....I've gotta believe that they will say "great idea"

you won't get kicked out. you're not taking your class for transfer credit correct? if you never show the school your transcript they'll never know, unless you tell them, and I doubt they'll care, it's not like you're taking 20 credits in 300 level classes....

OK, thanks. I'll double check again, but I'm confident it will work out. If my parents are paying for the class, I guess I should at least get elective credit for it, but we'll see. I would consider not showing them my trascript, but that's illegal isn't it?
