CC is "Frighteningly Addictive": National Review Online

I don’t think it is addicting. I can stop looking, reading, and learning whenever I want to. I’m glad I found CC. The people on the forums have taught me alot about different colleges and what to expect when I get there.

after 2 or 3 rejects i started my own thread called rejects…mourn here… and its going gr8! i have more rejections i can whine about with more people to share my sorrows with. Students have killed themselves over college rejections (well, i dont REALLY know about that, i made it up but um sure smn has…it is tht terrible…lolzz! ) being able to divide the sadness /happiness made me realize i wasnt alone and that thought is actually healthy. My CC friends helped me out throughout the whole decisions month and honestly, if i have to do it again, i know ill do it perfect!! if only i found out a lil earlier…:frowning:

definitely agree with the “not being alone in rejections” thing. cc gave me some serious persective that I don’t have being surrounded by kids who didn’t bother applying to college.

melissa - I love you!

At least some people in my home country have committed suicide over not getting the NATIONAL EXAM results they really pined for. The whole straight A1’s and stuff.

But our education entrance system is based purely on grades. :frowning:

I really wouldn’t like my mother reading my blog (if I had one), or writing about me in such detail. To each his own, I suppose.

if i only i had found this site my junior year instead of my senior year!
CC is GREAT!

CC is awesome…When applications deadlines were coming along around New Year’s, ppl were so helpful to critique my essays while I did theirs–good team effort. And, it was really good feedback, and with the enthusiasm they helped me with is amazing…Thanks to all!

totally!! more addicting than facebook!!

I really wish I had known about CC when I was in High School. It is crazy addictive! I think it’s important for there to be a specific forum for college students, prospective students, and then parents to go to for information. I mean, if I had known I could talk to current students about my college, I might not have gone there, so there’s a lot of use.

VERY VERY VERY true. I’ve probably spent around 20 hours on this site in the last three months. I’m glad though, that I discovered this site AFTER I was practically done with my college apps.

I have looked at cc on and off for two years. it is informative in that it makes you feel better about not getting into a school or worrying about it but really guys, either the stats are way exaggerated or the kids on here are super human. i work, make all A’s, enjoy weekends and join a few clubs. and i am very tired.
some kids post so many ecs that i have to wonder if they are all real or if their school lets the kids do this just for the look? for instance, a friend said that at his school one teacher lets all of the kids say they are officers in a club?

Back to the point, my b went to a college talk session and the school said the primary thing they looks at is transcripts. Yet others posted that they had a 3.5 at a school that posts it requires a 4.1? but the SAT score was very high. So that makes you think that either the school is not upfront or the kid is not telling the truth or what do you think?

This site would be BETTER if it separated what the author calls gossip from some facts. And if kids are using it to give them an edge on admissions, think again. None of this stuff is proven. None of the posts can be taken for absolute truth. And, if you don’t say what everyone wants to hear you get attached. Just look at the post where someone contradicts what you want to hear and the replies are so offensive. THESE ARE KIDS TALKING on the most part and another kid does not know any more than you do. You are asking for chances to another kid! if he knew, he wouldn’t be on this site he would be working at the college!

did not sleep last night cause of basketball game and did not proof. I meant to say that at UNC they state certain things but kids get on this site and say they got in with much less? but their SAT score is high. So much of all of this is luck of the draw. 30,000 apps to read in two months cannot allow for very much personal attention.

This has been the most informative site in this process! There are so many knowledgeable parents.

Very productive for insomnia, or does it actually cause more insomnia?? Tetris gets boring anyway!!

Not necessarily for grown people…

An awesome site. Yes, I’ll admit, slightly addictive, even after only visiting a few times, but it’s a great resource for internationals like me. We’ve got no idea about the US education/college processes over here and it’s great to be able to just talk and ask questions of people who are going through the same thing. Seeing as about 70% of the people I know have never left the state of New South Wales, let alone even thought about studying outside of Oz, places like this provide some of the most simple and accessible information available. Who cares if it’s addictive? It’s more productive than dodgy television or online gaming.

Also, the people are awesome.

And Tetris never gets boring.

VERY addictive but all for the best! CC is the best site I have found.
