During my son’s recent hospitalization, I received more support and encouragement from my CC friends than my “in real life” friends. They sent me cards, flowers, candy, gift baskets, gift certificates, etc.!! That meant the world to me. And whenever I want advice on ANY subject, I post my question in the Parents Cafe and get help right away.
I also love seeing posts like the one from underhillp!
I also think some of the more specific forums are especially helpful. The Music Major forum, for example, has some very dedicated long-term posters who have helped many people.
You can add the, " College for the Jewish B student" to one of the most helpful threads in terms of awareness and mutual support.
As for guidance counselors, there are all types but luckily they replaced the one my sons were assigned to before our youngest’s senior year. She would tell NMF that they ‘might’ get into the state flagship U, the one with the 40+% acceptance rate…Yeah, okay. I learned more here on CC than from the GC and college support at our suburban upper income HS…
CC has been very helpful to me. There are so many things that I would not have known if I did not come to CC e.g. a major Scholarship which my child got. Whatever that article want to portray, I am very grateful to CC.
I learnt so much on CC, not just about college and its assorted issues, but also about dealing with academic, relationship, family difficulties - I think of the Parent’s Forum and Parent’s Caf
Aaaarggh!! I want to read the article! Somewhere between my archaic desktop and my “two cans and a string” internet, I can’t get the article to load. Can somebody verify that it is still up? I’ll keep trying if it is.
And for a comment before reading from a cc alum : Yeah.Yeah. There is some crazy crap on here. But stick around long enough and you’ll learn to separate the wheat from the chaff.
For my family, finding cc when we did was nothing less than a miracle. We are forever grateful.
O.K. Found it. Ho-hum. I guess it was interesting to see what the reporter thought was memorable or remarkable. I would have chosen differently but I didn’t find the article one-sided. Just confused.
