Please help...The form asks:
Estimate the amount of the tuition & fees deduction your parents will claim in 2013..,

Can I claim SAT Prep classes & SAT Test fees & AP Test Fees under this on my taxes??

Doing the profile now and it's due Dec. 1 for ED Syracuse.
Thank you for your help!

No you can’t. The expenses allowed for the tax credits and deductions are expenses for attending college, not for applying to college.

annoyingdad is correct (as usual).

The education tax credits are for qualified education expenses (basically tuition and fees and sometimes books) for students that are in college. SAT & AP related fees do not qualify.

Once your kiddo is in college, you may qualify for some education tax benefits.

Thank you for your quick responses!

I understand what your saying…but then the next question is:

Question PE-13A
…total elementary, jr high, HS, tuition your parents paid in 2013…

Can I put the SAT prep class & test fees there? or that is only for private school tuition etc?

if not…can I put it anywhere?

Thank you again! I appreciate the help, I’ve never done anything like this before, it’s kinda scary or I guess I should say overwhelming…all these questions!

I believe that is for private school tuition only.

The ‘bible’ for federal education tax regulations/benefits is IRS Pub 970. Take advantage of what you can when the time comes:

No you cannot put the SAT prep course cost anywhere on the Profile.
