Thank you!!!
@stagedoormama she was incredible in rehearsals!
@MTmama42 Hi there. We will be there next Friday and Saturday. My son is in the show. While I’m not a new family I would love to talk to you about all the great things that is CCU Theatre. Hope to get to meet you and your daughter.
@stagedoormama I am sure she is going to be amazing!
Thanks @4angels and @cmatte! Just praying her voice holds up! @cmatte - Heard C is killing it and loved the pic of the two of them.
@stagedoormama Can’t wait to see them. Loved the photo too! Are you coming to see it?
@cmatte - Yes- flying out on Wednesday and staying through the weekend!
@stagedoormama Awesome. See you there. Safe travels!
@kittym I would encourage you to speak more with Adam Pelty- Head of Dance. His email is easily google-able. When I attended CCU, even less dance was offered than is now and I still grew tremendously. Many of the strong dancers in the program supplement with outside classes and summer intensives, as stagedoormama suggested, but also thrived in extra classes like dance company and often double up. If your S happened to enter with any extra credits in his schedule, he’d have room to retake dance classes he’d previously done and stack them up (their 2 course credits only) in a semester. I know a senior dancer girl who is taking ballet 2 for the 3rd or 4th time- you can never have enough.
Also- is your son a dancer already or a singer/actor who is concerned and wants to grow? If it’s the former, I’d really encourage a program like CCU that is well rounded and can give him some incredible acting and vocal training to make him a true triple threat. Check out our fb page if you haven’t already- we’ve had alum on Broadway in dance-heavy shows like “Pippin” and numerous on big tours like “A Chorus Line” and “Saturday Night Fever”.
*they’re two course credits only → grammar!
My S accepted to Coastal. Same concerns here. The cost of going to the college is enough without having to supplement with outside training. S also accepted to big city schools with more dance, but really loves the big campus feel at CCU. Really have to think about what his goals are and the best fit to attain them.
@MTPhillyMom - For sure. Each student has to choose what is right for them. Coastal is very well known for it’s acting and vocal training. It has never been a huge dance program. But they are working on improving that and adding in a dance minor. There is plenty of dance to be had through classes and dance company if one chooses, but it is up to the individual what they are really looking for. Best of luck to you on your decision!
Just got back from a fantastic visit at CCU, and prior to leaving my S decided to commit. During our time there, we saw New Brain. Great talent, and the students all really seemed to get along, and were so friendly and supportive! @stagedoormama your D did great! And if she wasn’t feeling well, it did not show at all!
S also sat in on classes, and had a couple of meals both on and off campus w some of the students. He felt very welcomed and seemed to fit right in… which is exactly what he was hoping for. So THANK YOU to all you parents who have kids there that helped my S feel at home. Kudos to them and you!!!
We also met w Ken, and we discussed both the dance aspect and studying abroad. He said they were looking to bring in a dance minor beginning in 2020, and he is of the opinion that all theatre students should study abroad (full year for phys theatre and 1 semester for others). He said its a bit more difficult for the MT students, but if an MT student is interested, they will work on schedules to get them to be able to do it. We did not discuss the financial aspect of the study abroad (in state vs OOS), but our tour guide did mention that students who study abroad get in-state, but did not specify if it was for a semester or year program…I’m leaning towards all students who study abroad regardless of length of time get in-state.
In any case…the campus is gorgeous, the facilities up to date, and the faculty and students all really seemed to be happy there! There was just a general overall feeling of ‘happy’ throughout the campus!
@lithpool So exciting! Congrats!!! We arrive in Myrtle Beach Wednesday, tour Thursday, and see the show Friday. Can’t wait!
Thank you to everyone for the feedback on Coastal. My S is getting really excited to visit this week. We see the show Wednesday night and he will attend classes on Thursday. Everyone at Coastal, including past graduates and current students, have been so welcoming and informative.
We are arriving on Saturday night, with my D sitting in on Monday’s classes. Going to enjoy an Easter Sunday at the beach ?.
@lithpool Congratulations to your son and welcome to the CCU family. Our family has loved every minute there.
@kittym Enjoy the show on Wednesday!
@MTmama42 We will be at the show Friday night too. My son is part of the cast. Would love to say hello.
I am hoping our flight arrives early enough to catch Saturday’s performance. We were fortunate to see Steel Pier when my D auditioned on campus in February. We are looking forward to being back on campus!
@2019wolves Awesome. Hope you guys can make the show. Safe travels.
Heading off across the country to CCU in the morning! If If anyone wants to message me and meet up and say hey before any of the shows Thurs/Fri/Sat eve. - we will be there! Hope everyone has a wonderful visit!
My daughter was just accepted for BFA Acting at CCU. Paid the deposit tonight! Yay!!! @MTmama42 we are driving down there tomorrow to get all of our paper work in order and have a brief meeting with Ken. Then we will see the show tomorrow night. Maybe out D’s could meet?
