CCU MT BFA Class of 2016!

Hello! My daughter has been accepted and is attending Coastal. Her and a couple of other people are in a facebook group for it, and they are all getting to know eachother and are trying to figure out roomates, etc. I am trying to see if anybody else would like to join the group. Maybe AlexaMT or Mr.Martin can help us with this?

Congratulations to your D…my D is a sophomore, along with AlexaMT, and is loving the program! Any questions you have, AlexaMT can answer (or get the answer for you)… and Ken is often on CC as well, and is very good about responding to any questions you may have…This program is a little gem in the South, but now word has gotten out about how wonderful it is and it is getting harder and harder to get into. I do know that there was a facebook group for my D’s class to “meet” each other…and I feel sure there was one for the present freshman class. Audition numbers continue to rise with each class…so congrats again! Job well done!!

Sorry mtmom24…I didn’t read your post correctly…guess I was so excited for your D… thought you were asking also if there were any facebook groups for her class…DUH!! Sorry. Looks like you have already found one :)

Ken usually sets up the “official” CCU BFA Facebook group. I know he has been traveling - NYC and Italy - so has not been in the office. But I am sure Alexa and Ken will see this and that the group will get up and running shortly.

Congrats to your D on becoming a Chanticleer!!

Hi Ladies, thanks for the congrats. My daughter is very excited for the upcoming year. We were not sure whether or not to send in her housing deposit quite yet because she is hoping to room with another MT major. I guess we will look for the “Official” facebook group and hope to connect with another incoming freshman. Thanks again!!

My D wanted a “non MT” girl for her freshman year and FORTUNATELY, had a wonderful young lady and a very good freshman year roomie experience! I know that is not always the case. She is now in UP (University Place…the student apartments about 1/2 mile from campus) with 3 other MT roommates. I know that she did (and your D will too) meet and connect with other MT’s at her orientation this summer…I am not sure when the deposits for housing have to be in this year, but if she goes to one of the earlier orientations (I believe they start in early June) then maybe she can meet a few girls before the $ has to be in. Maybe someone who had a freshman this year can chime in on how it went as a freshman last year with regards to housing ;)

Congratulations and welcome to the Coastal theatre family!!!

My daughter is a current freshman MT and as far as FB, yes, Ken set up an “official” group that included all incoming BFAs in the department - MT, Acting, Physical Theatre, and Design & Tech. One thing my daughter loves about Coastal is how integrated the department is in this way.

Although she initially wanted to “room blind”, my daughter met one of her roommates, another MT, thru FB. They were both in the Honors program which means Honors Housing - 4 girls (in their case), each with their own bedroom, and a shared apartment-style suite (full kitchen minus the stove, LR and then the bathroom is sort of hotel-style with a “toilet closet”, a “shower closet”, and an open double sink vanity). So… this allowed her the best of both worlds, requesting one person in the same program and rooming blind for the other two roommates. It worked out quite well - it turns out her MT roommate is from the same HS as a good friend of my daughter’s from summer camp and one of the non-MT roommates is good friends with one of the MT guys - all 4 roommates are from different states. When they moved in, they realized they all four had the same comforter! One had a different color, but same pattern - so they knew they would be fine together.

Next year, the 2 MT girls will be at UP with another MT girl and a PT girl.

As far as deposit, I know we got it in as early as the girls could decide. At some point, Honors Housing filled up and some kids who were late to sign up for Honors and/or housing were put in traditional housing or doubled up at UP. A few spaces did become available later, but it’s always nicer to get your original request and not have to readjust or move.

mtmom24 - And don’t forget to post in the Final Decision thread please!

Interesting. I’ve been getting quite a bit of “where is the facebook page” requests in the past few days. I don’t know that I set them up this early before. But, I’ll endeavor to do that over the next week or so. Yes, I do take care of that end of it. This way I get a chance to connect with the freshman class in some meaningful way prior to the start of the school year. That, and since I’m normally the only one around in the summer, if there are issues I can normally deal with them. As for housing…send in that deposit soon! Last year we had folks all over the place. Please remember, our MT students track together. They will have all but one or MAYBE two classes together. Sometimes spending all day and all night with the same person can be taxing. Sometimes not. What I’m saying is, just because they are in theatre, doesn’t make them easy to live with. Just ask my wife. HEHEHEH.

Facebook group sometime this week.

Cheers,
-Ken

Anyone know what the facebook group name for the class 2016 is on facebook looking into getting in contact other accepted students

CCU Incoming Class 2012 Please join so that I can communicate with you this summer, and so can the current students.
-Ken

CCU Incoming Class 2012

That’s the name of the group. It made perfect sense when I typed it.
